Venture Prep » Why Venture Prep

Venture Prep is a free, rigorous, public charter school that uses an innovative college prep curriculum to prepare its students to succeed in college and in life. Venture Prep serves students in grades 6 to 12 using a project-based learning approach to teach its students the academic content and 21st-century skills they need to become the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

College Prep

• Venture Prep prepares students to attend and graduate from four-year competitive colleges.
• Courses in mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and art / digital media meet or exceed the requirements for college admission.
• Dedicated intervention resources provide extra support and academic enrichment

Project-Based Learning

• Venture Prep fosters interactive learning and academic growth by its students through in-depth projects that actively engage student interests.
• Venture Prep has partnered with Expeditionary Learning (EL), the premier provider of project-based learning curriculum and professional development in the U.S.

21st Century Skills

• We imbue our students not only with academic content but also with vital 21st century skills – including technology, collaboration, public speaking, and analytical problem-solving – they need to become the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs.

• Use of computers and digital media technology is a fundamental element of instruction and learning in every class in the school.

Beyond the basics – We believe that as important as learning English literature or math, students need to learn to work in a community, thereby taking on social responsibilities.  When students take responsibility for their learning, their self-esteem soars. It also helps to create better work habits and attitudes toward learning.   And, students also learn the skills that are essential in higher education and in the working world.

Community involvement – As a graduation requirement, each VP scholar must complete 20 hours of community service per year.  Through community service, students:

• Grow into leaders who understand different faces of society so that decisions will not be based merely on the prospect of personal gain and prosperity but based in integrity toward society and the environment.
• Form habits of community service and volunteerism.
• Develop career and volunteering possibilities in the nonprofit sector.
• Explore and acquire new skills, interests and knowledge.
• Exercise creativity, organization, teamwork and leadership skills.
